Will Kimball, associate professor of music at Brigham Young University, has been principal trombone with both the Cedar Rapids Symphony and the Arkansas Symphony and has performed with the Utah Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, and Orchestra at Temple Square. He is featured on numerous recordings, including studio recordings for the Discovery Channel, ESPN, and Disney; soundtracks for motion pictures such as The Sandlot and Son of the Mask; a recent recording of Copland’s Lincoln Portrait with former President Bill Clinton; and a CD with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir entitled Love Is Spoken Here. He performs regularly as a member of both the Utah Trombone Authority, a quartet with members of the Utah Symphony, and Brassworks, BYU’s faculty brass quintet.
A prizewinner at the MTNA National Solo Competition, he is a frequent soloist, with guest performances at Cincinnati Conservatory, the University of Louisville, the University of Iowa, and Arizona State University. As a clinician he has given workshops at many of the nation’s top music schools, including Juilliard, Cincinnati Conservatory, Indiana University, Yale, University of North Texas, and San Francisco Conservatory. His primary teachers have been Daniel Bachelder, Larry Zalkind, Murray Crewe, Brian Bowman, Scott Hartman, and Gail Wilson.
